Extended warranty questions
What do your warranties cover?
We offer comprehensive warranty coverage for your vehicle. It is comparable to the manufacturer’s warranty and other premium warranties. We also have powertrain coverage which covers the vehicle’s critical components like your engine and transmission. We email a copy of our extended warranty policy details to you when getting your instant quote. Also, you can check our warranty page for more details about our program. Please contact us if you need more information via chat, email, or phone at 1-844-712-2054.
Can I buy an Obvi warranty at the dealership?
We provide our warranties online only. This ensures that you get the greatest savings and value. Our friendly service agents are available to help every step of the way.
Is there a maintenance schedule to keep my warranty valid?
Following your manufacturer’s recommended service guidelines is all you need to do. Regular oil changes and maintenance should keep your vehicle running in good condition. Keep a copy of your service records. That way, you always have a record of the vehicle being maintained. It’s good practice to save your service records for yourself and when selling your vehicle.
How much is the deductible on your warranties?
Our warranty policies have $0 and $100 deductible options available. Please refer to the terms and conditions of our policies for more information.
Does my manufacturer’s comprehensive warranty need to be valid to get coverage?
Vehicles with some remaining comprehensive manufacturer’s warranty can buy without an inspection. For most vehicles, this is 3 years/60,000 km or 4 years/80,000 km. You can contact a local dealership to confirm if it has a remaining warranty or not. We can still cover you if it doesn’t have any warranty, but you will need an inspection from us.
Why do some vehicles need an inspection to be eligible?
Insurance fraud is a real issue. We need to ensure that all vehicles we cover are safe to do so. We can provide industry-leading claims service by filtering out pre-existing issues.
Where can I get my car repaired?
You can take your car to any licensed repair facility in Canada or the continental United States. This includes dealerships and independent repair facilities. We would also be happy to recommend a shop if you are unsure where to go.
What vehicles are eligible for a warranty?
We offer extended warranties for most new and used vehicles. Vehicles that are up to 10 model years old and have less than 200,000km are eligible. Try our quick online quote now to find out if you qualify.
What if I don’t see my make or model listed?
We cover most vehicles but there are some models we don’t. If you do not see your make or model listed and wish to inquire about it, please live chat with an adviser for the fastest response. We cover most brands including Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Nissan, RAM, and many others.
What is the “first-in-service date”?
The first-in-service date is the day the first owner bought the vehicle. It’s also known as the original in-service date or the original sale date. An in-service date is important because that’s when the original manufacturer warranty begins. You can calculate when your original warranty expires if you know this date. After that expiry date, certain repairs are no longer covered. It is best to call a local dealership to find out a vehicle’s first in-service date. Most dealerships will have no problem giving you this information over the phone. CARFAX vehicle history reports will also give you the first in-service date.
How do you handle claims? How do I make a claim?
Our claims service is quick and straightforward. We want your claim completed as soon as possible to get you on your way. You can start a claim online at our make a claim page. You can also contact us at claims@obvi.ca. Have your repair facility contact us before proceeding with any repairs and diagnostics. We will pay them directly once the repair is complete.
How long do claim approvals take?
We approve most claims in under an hour. The time to resolve your warranty claim will depend on the extent of the claim.
Do you have a list of approved repair centres?
You can get your vehicle repaired at any licensed repair shop. We would also be happy to recommend a shop if you are unsure where to go.
The manufacturer’s warranty still covers my vehicle. Can I buy warranty coverage to kick in when my manufacturer’s warranty expires?
Yes. At any time before the expiry of the manufacturer’s warranty, you can buy a warranty from Obvi. After that, the vehicle will need an inspection to qualify for coverage.
Are Obvi warranties insurance policies? How does that protect me?
Yes. Our policies are insurance policies. Financial stability and good claims reserves are very important. With an A+ rated insurance policy, you know that your policy is safe for the entire term and beyond.
What is the difference between an Obvi warranty and the ones offered by the dealership or others?
Our warranties are insurance policies underwritten by an A+ rated insurance company. Many dealerships offer “warranty contracts” from the auto manufacturer. These are not subject to any provincial or federal regulation. Some third-party warranty providers also offer service contracts depending on the province. Those have no assurance that financial obligations can be upheld (think Sears). Obvi has easy-to-understand coverage and by cutting out the middleman, you get better prices. This can save you thousands of hard-earned dollars. We also make things simple and easy for claims.
Will my mechanic or dealership accept Obvi’s warranties?
Yes. You can take your vehicle to any licensed repair shop in Canada or the continental United States. We will pay the shop for you via credit card. No need for shop pre-approval or to set up accounts. Have your repair facility contact us before proceeding with any repairs and diagnostics.
What if I need to cancel my policy?
All of our policies contain cancellation provisions. You can get a prorated refund if you need to cancel. Please contact us to cancel your policy, and we will help you determine the next steps.
Which vehicles need an inspection?
If your manufacturer’s warranty has expired (most are 3 years/60,000km or 4 years/80,000 km) you will need an inspection. New vehicles still under warranty do not need inspections.
Why does the inspection need to be through Obvi?
Streamlining our inspections through trusted partners provides consistency. It also makes our claims process easier and more efficient for our customers. Unfortunately, some dealership inspections are not always thorough. They are often more focused on closing the vehicle sale.
Do I need to have a quote before I can get an inspection?
Yes. Get a quote for your vehicle before booking your inspection. That way, we can provide you with the best possible pricing and service.
Where do you provide inspections?
We are currently able to provide inspections in most areas of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Connect with us on the live chat to find where the nearest inspection facility is.
What does the inspection include?
Certified mechanics perform a 147-point inspection which you will receive via email. The inspection includes:– A thorough inspection of the vehicle’s mechanical, cosmetic and electrical systems– Identifying any existing conditions– Identifying potential safety and mechanical problems– Taken on a short test drive.
What happens if the inspection finds an issue?
If your vehicle has an issue that would be under warranty, you will need to get it repaired if buying a warranty. This doesn’t apply to excluded items such as tires, rims, or body panels. Our partner mechanics can also help with the repairs for you at the time of inspection.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. You can choose up to a 24-month plan depending on the length of the policy.

New car replacement insurance questions
How does replacement cost insurance work?
Your primary insurance will pay out the vehicle’s Actual Cash Value (ACV) in a write-off. A new vehicle can lose up to 50% of its value in four years. The policy helps protect your significant cash investment from this depreciation. It covers the difference between the cost of a new vehicle and the payout from your primary insurer, up to $60,000
How do I make a replacement insurance claim?
You can check your policy documents for claim procedures. You can also contact us to find out the next steps.
What else does replacement cost insurance include?
The policy includes deductible reimbursement of up to $500. You can add OEM Parts coverage. In an accident, this provides original parts instead of cheap third-party ones. The Plus Package includes rental car reimbursement, key fob replacement, and deductible payback. Note: the vehicle does not have to be a write-off for OEM parts and Plus Package coverage to take effect. You can also add diminished value coverage. If your vehicle has significant repairs after an accident it loses resale value. This add-on will give you a cash settlement for a 10% of the vehicle’s current value. The cost stays the same for the duration of the contract and the coverage period can last up to seven years. You can cancel it at any time for a proportional refund.
Does my vehicle need to be a write-off for the new car replacement insurance policy to take effect?
Yes. The replacement insurance will only take effect in the event of a write-off. If you have any extra coverage options, those will take effect according to the terms of the policy.
What if I need to cancel my policy?
All of our policies contain cancellation provisions. You can get a prorated refund if you need to cancel. Please contact us to cancel your policy, and we will help you determine the next steps.
Do you offer payment plans for replacement insurance?
Yes. You can choose up to a 60-month plan depending on the length of the policy. Pay by credit card or direct debit from your account.
