WHERE CAN I SEE WHAT IS COVERED? WHAT DO OBVI WARRANTIES COVER?

You can check our warranty web page for more details about our program. We offer comprehensive warranty coverage for your vehicle which is comparable to the manufacturer warranty and other premium warranties. CAN I BUY AN OBVI WARRANTY AT THE DEALERSHIP?

Obvi warranties are offered exclusively online, directly to the customer via an easy-to-use web platform. We sell our policies directly to you to ensure that you get maximum savings and value. Use Obvi’s quick quote and sign-up process to buy a policy anytime, anywhere you have an internet connection — on your phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.

IS THERE A MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENT TO KEEP MY WARRANTY VALID?

Following your manufacturer’s recommended service guidelines is all you need to do. Regular oil changes and maintenance should keep your automobile running in good condition. If a part fails and you need to make a claim, we may need to check your service records to rule out that it wasn’t because of negligence. It’s good practice to save your service records for yourself as well as for when selling your vehicle.

WHAT IS NEW CAR REPLACEMENT INSURANCE?

In the event of a write-off your primary insurance settlement will only be for the Actual Cash Value (ACV) of the vehicle, which will have suffered depreciation since the time you purchased it. The average vehicle depreciates 10-15% per year. Obvi’s New Car Replacement Cost Insurance helps protect your investment by covering the difference between the vehicle’s MSRP at the time of purchase and the ACV at the time of a claim, up to $60,000.

DO YOU HAVE A DEDUCTIBLE?

Our warranty policies may have a small deductible of $100 for any one warranty claim. Please refer to the terms and conditions on our policies for more information.

WHY DOESN’T OBVI OFFER MANY DIFFERENT LEVELS OF WARRANTY COVERAGE?

Obvi warranties are designed to offer the best level of protection available from the market to all customers.  If you’ve bought a standard warranty before, you know how confusing it can be when you are offered “Bronze,” “Gold” or “Platinum” coverage. Everyone should have a solid, comprehensive warranty that’s easy to understand.

DOES MY MANUFACTURERS COMPREHENSIVE WARRANTY NEED TO BE VALID?

On newer vehicles, Obvi requires that your vehicle still has some remaining comprehensive manufacturer’s warranty so that you don’t have to get an inspection. For most vehicles, this is 3 year/60,000 km or 4 year/80,000 km. If you are unsure if your vehicle is still covered by a manufacturer’s comprehensive warranty, contact an associated dealership or your automaker to confirm. We can still cover you if doesn’t have any warranty but you will need an inspection from us.

WHY DO SOME VEHICLES REQUIRE INSPECTIONS IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE?

Insurance fraud is a real issue, and we need to ensure that all vehicles we cover are safe to do so. By filtering out problems on vehicles prior to issuing policies, we are better able to provide industry-leading claims service to all of our customers.

WHERE CAN I GET MY CAR REPAIRED?

You can take your car to any licensed repair facility in Canada or the continental United States including dealerships and independent repair facilities.

WHAT VEHICLES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR OBVI WARRANTIES?

WHAT IS THE ``FIRST-IN-SERVICE DATE``?

The first-in-service date is the day a vehicle is sold to the first owner, also known as the original in-service date or the original sale date. An in-service date is important because it’s the date a vehicle’s original manufacturer warranty begins, which allows you to calculate when your manufacturer’s warranty expires and your repairs are no longer covered by the manufacturer.

To find out a vehicle’s first in-service date it is best to call a local dealership. Most dealerships will have no problem giving you this information over the phone. CARFAX vehicle-history reports will also give you the first-in-service date.

DO YOU NEED TO KNOW MY VEHICLE MODEL'S TRIM LEVEL?

Your vehicle’s trim level will not affect your policy premium quote and is not necessary to obtain coverage.

HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT MY CLAIM TO TAKE?

We will work hard to resolve all claims as quickly and efficiently as possible to keep you satisfied, as customer service is extremely important to us. The time to resolve your claim will depend on the extent of the claim, but most claims can be approved in under an hour.

IS THERE A LIST OF SERVICE CENTERS IN MY AREA WHO ARE AUTHORIZED TO DO REPAIRS FOR OBVI?

You can get your vehicle repaired at any licensed repair shop.

WHAT ELSE IS INCLUDED IN NEW CAR REPLACEMENT INSURANCE?

This policy also includes Deductible Reimbursement, up to $500. You can also add on optional coverage for OEM Parts (the guaranteed use of Original Equipment Manufacturer parts, opposed to cheap 3rd-party alternatives) and a Plus Package (which includes Rental Car Reimbursement, Key Fob Replacement, and other benefits). Note: the vehicle does not have to be written off for OEM Parts and Plus Package coverage to take effect.

MY VEHICLE IS STILL COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. CAN I PURCHASE WARRANTY COVERAGE TO TAKE EFFECT WHEN MY MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY EXPIRES?

Yes! At any time prior to the expiry of the manufacturer’s warranty you can purchase a warranty from Obvi.

IS MY OBVI WARRANTY INSURED? HOW DOES THAT PROTECT ME?

Yes! All of our policies are insurance policies. When purchasing a warranty with a multi-year lifespan, the financial stability and ability to pay claims throughout the life of the policy is of utmost importance. With an ‘A’ rated Obvi warranty in hand, you can rest assured that your claims will be covered throughout the term of the policy.

WHY ARE OBVI WARRANTIES SO MUCH LESS THAN OTHER OPTIONS?

Obvi has streamlined the entire automobile warranty experience to make it easy and affordable.  By cutting out the middleman, our business operations (right down to the software we use) and policy acquisition costs are managed more efficiently and effectively, and those savings are passed on to you, the customer.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN OBVI WARRANTY AND THE WARRANTIES OFFERED BY OTHER COMPANIES OR THE DEALERSHIP?

An Obvi warranty is a mechanical breakdown insurance policy with the financial stability of an A-rated insurance company in all provinces that we operate in.  Many dealerships offer “warranty contracts” from the auto manufacturer, which are not subject to any provincial or federal regulation.  Depending on the province, some third-party warranty providers offer service contracts without any assurance that financial obligations can be upheld. Obvi has easy to understand coverage and by cutting out the middleman, you don’t have to pay fees and commissions on top of fees and commissions. This can save you thousands of your hard-earned dollars. We make things simple and easy so you can have peace of mind in your coverage and avoid headaches when dealing with repairs or claims.

CAN I SWITCH TO OBVI IF I ALREADY HAVE AN ACTIVE EXTENDED WARRANTY POLICY?

If you recently bought an extended warranty and want to switch to Obvi, we suggest looking at your cancellation clause to see if it makes sense to switch. Contact us and we can help you review your coverage.

WILL MY MECHANIC OR DEALERSHIP ACCEPT OBVI'S WARRANTIES?

You can take your vehicle to any licensed mechanic anywhere in Canada and the continental United States and we will arrange to pay them directly. Have your repair facility contact us before proceeding with any repairs and diagnostics.

CAN I SET UP A PAYMENT PLAN FOR NEW CAR REPLACEMENT INSURANCE?

Yes. You can choose a 12-month payment plan for a 2-year-policy, a 24-month payment plan for a 3-year policy and a 36-month payment plan for policies that are 4 years or longer.

DOES MY VEHICLE NEED TO BE WRITTEN OFF FOR THE NEW CAR REPLACEMENT INSURANCE POLICY TO TAKE EFFECT?

Yes, the replacement insurance will only take effect in the event of a write-off. If you purchased any additional coverage options, those will take effect according to the terms of the policy.

WHAT IS “A” RATED INSURANCE?

An A-rated insurance company is generally one that performs at the top of its industry in creditworthiness and is financially strong. Many of the major rating organizations, such as A.M. Best, give ratings ranging from “A” or above, which is considered superior or excellent, to “C” or “D” ratings, which can be described as weak or poor.

When purchasing a warranty with a multiyear lifespan, the financial stability and ability to pay claims throughout the life of the policy is of utmost importance.

With an A-rated warranty in hand, you can rest assured that your claims will be covered throughout the life of the policy.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY POLICY?

All of our policies contain cancellation provisions throughout the life of the policy that can be viewed in our sample policies provided when getting an instant quote. WHEN WILL OBVI BE AVAILABLE IN MY PROVINCE?

Obvi currently serves residents of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Check back often or sign up for our mailing list to be notified of any future services.

WHICH VEHICLES NEED AN INSPECTION?

If your manufacturer’s full comprehensive warranty has expired (most are 3 years/60,000km or 4 years/80,000 km) you will need an inspection from Obvi to purchase a warranty. New vehicles still under warranty do not require inspections.

WHY DO I HAVE TO USE OBVI AND ITS PARTNERS FOR MY INSPECTION?

Streamlining all of our inspections through one trusted mechanic partner provides consistency and makes our claims process faster and more efficient for customers. We also want all of our customers to have the luxury of working with a mobile mechanic that comes right to their home or workplace. Additionally, some dealerships don’t always take the inspection process seriously because they are more focused on closing sales.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A QUOTE BEFORE I CAN GET AN INSPECTION?

Yes, the discounted inspection rate is available to those who want to get a warranty for their vehicle. Get a quote for your vehicle before booking your inspection.

WHERE CAN I GET MY VEHICLE INSPECTED?

Inspections come to you! Your vehicle inspection can be done at your place of work or your home. We are currently only serving the greater municipal areas of Edmonton, Calgary, and the B.C. Lower Mainland.

WHAT CITIES AND PROVINCES DO YOU OFFER INSPECTIONS IN?

We are currently only able to serve the greater municipal areas of Edmonton and Calgary in Alberta and the B.C. Lower Mainland for inspections. If you are able to travel to these locations we can set up an appointment; otherwise, we will look to expand our locations in the future.

IF I DON'T LIVE IN CALGARY, EDMONTON OR THE LOWER MAINLAND, COULD I STILL DRIVE TO ONE OF THOSE AREAS FOR AN INSPECTION?

Yes, it’s possible to go to these areas for a scheduled inspection. Please plan ahead to determine a safe place to meet the mechanic.

WHAT DOES THE INSPECTION INCLUDE?

Certified mechanics perform a 147-point inspection which you will receive electronically. The inspection includes:

  • Thorough inspection of the vehicle’s mechanical, cosmetic and electrical systems
  • Identify existing conditions
  • Identify potential safety and financial problems
  • Wheels will be taken off, vehicle raised and then taken on a test drive

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE INSPECTION FINDS AN ISSUE?

If your vehicle has an issue that would be covered under warranty you will need to get it repaired before you can purchase a warranty. This doesn’t apply to excluded items like tires, rims, body panels, etc. Our partner mechanics can also help with the repairs for you at the time of inspection.
