WHAT DO OBVI WARRANTIES COVER?

We offer comprehensive warranty coverage for your vehicle. Our policies are subject only to a list of basic exclusions. The best place to find what is covered is on our policy document. You can preview our coverage when you get an instant quote, just click the link to the sample policy. We also include a PDF summary on our warranty page.

WHY ARE OBVI WARRANTIES SO MUCH LESS?

It’s simple; Obvi has streamlined the entire automobile warranty experience to make it easy and affordable.  By cutting out the middleman, business operations (right down to the software we use) and policy acquisition costs are managed more efficiently and effectively, and that savings is passed on to you, the customer.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY WARRANTY IF I SELL MY CAR? IS MY WARRANTY TRANSFERABLE?

Your Obvi warranty stays with your car, so when you decide it’s time to sell, you can include the extended warranty in the sale.

It’s easy to transfer your Obvi warranty to a buyer, even if you’re trading your vehicle in at a dealership.

You can find additional details on the Warranty Transfer form and have the warranty transferred to the new owner by completing the online form on our website at https://obvi.ca/policy-transfers/ or emailing the form to policytransfers@obvi.ca.

WHY DOESN’T OBVI OFFER DIFFERENT LEVELS OF WARRANTY COVERAGE?

Obvi warranties are designed to offer the best level of protection available from the market to all customers.  If you’ve bought a standard warranty before you know how confusing it can be when you are offered “Bronze”, “Gold”, or “Platinum” coverage. Everyone should have a solid, comprehensive warranty that’s easy to understand.

HOW LONG IS THE TERM OF YOUR GAP INSURANCE?

Our GAP insurance will cover you for the full term of your lease or loan. No need to renew every year!

WHAT IS GUARANTEED ASSET PROTECTION INSURANCE AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Guaranteed Asset Protection insurance protects you from theft, fire, or collision resulting in total loss by paying the difference of your outstanding loan amount versus the settlement offer from your insurer. Anyone who finances or leases vehicles has the potential to have a gap between the amount your insurer is going to pay and what is owing on the loan or lease balance.  Don’t be left with a balance owing on a vehicle that is no longer yours.

IS GUARANTEED ASSET PROTECTION GOOD TO HAVE?

If your down payment was less than 20%, you may owe more than your car is worth. If your car is written off by your automobile insurer, GAP insurance can help you pay off the balance of the loan. You may even be required to purchase Guaranteed Asset Protection insurance if you are leasing a vehicle.

WHAT IS THE ``FIRST IN SERVICE DATE``?

The first in-service date is the day a vehicle is sold to the first owner, also known as the original in-service date or the original sale date. An in-service date is important because it’s the date a vehicles original manufacturer warranty begins and allows you to calculate when your manufacturer’s warranty expires and your repairs are no longer covered by the manufacturer.

To find out a vehicles first in-service date it is best to call a local dealership. Most dealerships will have no problem giving you this information over the phone. Carproof vehicle-history reports will also give you the first in-service date.

WHY DOES MY MANUFACTURERS COMPREHENSIVE WARRANTY NEED TO BE VALID?

To avoid costly inspections, mitigate fraud, and bring customers a completely online experience with the best possible prices, Obvi requires that your vehicle still have some remaining comprehensive manufacturers warranty. For most vehicles this is 3 year/60,000 km or 4 year/80,000 km. If you are unsure if your vehicle is still covered by a manufacturers comprehensive warranty contact a dealership or your automaker to confirm.

DO YOU NEED TO KNOW MY VEHICLE MODELS TRIM LEVEL?

Your vehicles trim level will not affect your policy premium quote and is not necessary to obtain coverage.

DO YOU HAVE A DEDUCTIBLE?

If a breakdown occurs in the engine or another serviceable part, you may be asked to provide maintenance records to support your claim and rule out owner negligence. It’s good practice to save your service records for yourself as well as for when selling your vehicle.

IS THERE A MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENT TO KEEP MY WARRANTY VALID?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AND OBVI WARRANTY AND THE WARRANTIES OFFERED BY OTHER COMPANIES OR THE DEALERSHIP?

An Obvi Warranty is a mechanical breakdown insurance policy with the financial stability of an “A” Rated Insurance Company in all Provinces that we operate in.  Many dealerships offer “warranty contracts” from the Auto Manufacturer, which are not subject to any provincial or federal regulation.  Depending on the Province, some third party warranty providers offer service contracts without any assurance that financial obligations can be upheld. Obvi has easy to understand coverage and the best pricing offered in the market today. By cutting out the middleman, you don’t have to pay fees and commissions on top of fees and commissions. This saves you thousands of your hard earned dollars. We make things simple and easy so you can have peace of mind in your coverage and avoid headaches when dealing with repairs or claims.

CAN I SWITCH TO OBVI IF I ALREADY HAVE AN ACTIVE EXTENDED WARRANTY POLICY?

If you recently bought an extended warranty and want to switch to Obvi, we suggest looking at your cancellation clause to see if it makes sense to switch.

WILL MY MECHANIC OR DEALERSHIP ACCEPT OBVI'S WARRANTIES?

You can take your vehicle to any licensed mechanic anywhere in Canada and the continental United States and we will arrange to pay them directly. Have your repair facility contact us before proceeding with any repairs and diagnostics.

WHAT IS “A” RATED INSURANCE?

An ‘A’ rated insurance company is generally one that performs at the top of its industry in creditworthiness and is financially strong. Many of the major rating organizations, such as A.M. Best, give ratings ranging from ‘A’ or above, which is considered superior or excellent, to ‘C’ or ‘D’ ratings, which can be described as weak or poor.

When purchasing a warranty with a multi-year lifespan, the financial stability and ability to pay claims throughout the life of the policy is of utmost importance.
